Kemdiktisaintek Urges Campuses to Guarantee Security for Satgas PPKPT
Jakarta — The Ministry of Education, Higher Education, Science and Technology (Kemdiktisaintek) has emphasised the importance of security protections for members of the Satgas Pencegahan dan Penanganan Kekerasan di Perguruan Tinggi (Satgas PPKPT) within campus environments. Beny Bandanadjaja, Director of Learning and Students at Kemdiktisaintek, told reporters in Jakarta on Tuesday that the noble endeavour to create a safe space for the academic community must not compromise the safety of those who guard it. ‘This Satgas (PPKPT) also needs protecting, doesn’t it? So we hope that indeed university leadership will provide assurances of protection and also mentoring during such processes,’ he said. Beny noted that protection for Satgas PPKPT members is important because they are vulnerable to threats, intimidation, and even doxxing by certain parties. He added that such vulnerability presents a serious challenge for higher education institutions, which must be mitigated promptly through campus internal policies that prioritise protecting the team. If there is no comprehensive and supportive security ecosystem, Kemdiktisaintek fears that the willingness of both lecturers and students to contribute as Satgas volunteers will drop drastically. In addition to post-incident protection, Kemdiktisaintek urges all universities to prioritise preventive strategies to curb potential violence, as set out in Permendikbudristek No. 55 of 2024. Beny said that early prevention through extensive and ongoing education is seen as far more effective at reducing the number of cases, thereby minimising the burden of handling and the risk of threats against Satgas PPKPT members to an optimal level.
