As many as 33,044 prospective university students applying for KIP Kuliah through the National Selection Based on Achievement (SNBP) have been declared eligible out of a total of 64,471 applicants. This was stated by the Acting Head of the Centre for Higher Education Financing and Assessment, Ministry of Education, Higher Education, Science, and Technology (Kemdiktisaintek), Sandro Mihradi.

“Then, there are 31,424 non-eligible. So, roughly 50 percent, that’s the selectivity rate here,” he explained during a press conference on the SNBP results at the Kemdiktisaintek office in Jakarta on Tuesday (31/3).

Furthermore, according to him, most of these participants are recipients of the Indonesia Pintar Programme (PIP) at the high school level.

“If we look at the distribution, around 67 percent of the prospective KIP Kuliah recipients or those eligible for KIP Kuliah are PIP SMA recipients. So, we see continuity here, whereas 33 percent had not previously received PIP SMA,” said Sandro.

In addition, the academic public universities (PTN) with the highest number of KIP Kuliah applicants include Malikussaleh University with 1,912, State University of Medan with 1,788, State University of Padang with 1,787, State University of Surabaya with 1,782, and State University of Makassar with 1,516. For vocational PTN, they include Jember State Polytechnic with 917, Sriwijaya State Polytechnic with 697, Medan State Polytechnic with 605, Lhokseumawe State Polytechnic with 564, and Lampung State Polytechnic with 518.

Sandro added that after receiving the list of SNBP passers applying for KIP Kuliah, each higher education institution will receive information on how many of the SNBP passers are eligible for KIP Kuliah.

“What the higher education institutions need to do is ensure that prospective students promptly carry out re-registration at the university because this is an important stage to upgrade their status from prospective recipient to recipient. They must re-register. They also need to conduct verification and validation based on registration documents using economic data in the KIP Kuliah student information system or through the new student registration information system at their respective universities,” he stated.

He also requested cooperation from PTN parties to carry out data verification and validation, either directly through interviews or by conducting spot checks at several locations offline or online through virtual interviews.

“Then, submit the verification and validation report to PPAPT within the specified time,” explained Sandro.

For prospective students who are not yet in the DTSEN but fall into the poor category, he urged higher education institutions to strive for verification and validation so that these prospective students can receive KIP Kuliah.

“This status will then appear as pending, awaiting verification and validation from each higher education institution. So, if they are indeed truly eligible from the very poor to vulnerable poor economic group or their family income is below the provincial minimum wage, they must be advocated for to receive KIP Kuliah,” concluded Sandro.
