Kemayoran makes Proklim a movement for environmental awareness

Kemayoran Sub-district, Central Jakarta, is making the Climate Village Programme (Proklim) a collective movement to build a culture of environmental awareness and strengthen community resilience to climate change.

“Proklim is not merely an effort to obtain awards, but a collective movement to build a culture of environmental awareness and strengthen community resilience to climate change,” said Bayu Randy Wiradian, Head of the Economy and Development Section of Kemayoran Sub-district, in Jakarta on Monday.

He said Proklim is not only oriented towards assessment and awards, but needs to be implemented sustainably by the community.

Bayu expressed hope that the community and all stakeholders would maintain the spirit of mutual cooperation and continue to create innovations in environmental management.

He added that the field verification visit by the Jakarta Environmental Agency also provided an opportunity for residents to receive input to improve various environmental activities in their area.

“I hope all stakeholders continue to maintain the spirit of mutual cooperation, carry out innovations, and make Proklim a community culture, not just an activity carried out when verification takes place,” said Bayu.

“The residents’ spirit is very cohesive, which is already a plus point. There have also been many actions, ranging from adaptation and mitigation actions, and women cadres have also developed organic waste management, from composters to eco-enzymes. This entire series is running very well,” said Suci.

According to her, the activities of environmental cadres have also been carried out together with the sub-district apparatus.

Suci said this needs to be maintained through the development of activities and consistency in their implementation.

For this reason, she hopes that residents’ awareness of the impacts of climate change in Jakarta will continue to increase so that more people become involved in Proklim activities.

“We hope that Proklim activities will continue to develop, residents will begin to realise the impacts of climate change in Jakarta, and residents will begin to play a role in Proklim so that the environment becomes more beautiful,” said Suci.
