Kelingking Beach Glass Lift Project Goes Viral Again, Klungkung Regency Denies Resumption

The glass lift project in the Kelingking Beach tourist area of Nusa Penida, Klungkung, Bali, has gone viral on social media once again. A circulating video narrated that the glass lift construction project was resuming. The Klungkung Regency Government has denied these claims.

Head of the Nusa Penida Tourism UPTD, Ketut Lama, stated that the video in circulation showed an on-site inspection conducted by the panel of judges from the Denpasar Administrative Court on Wednesday (24/6). According to him, to date there has been no physical activity related to the construction of the lift on the Kelingking Beach cliff.

"The video that is viral on social media is not of construction resuming, but of a group from the Denpasar Administrative Court conducting an inspection," Lama said when confirmed on Sunday (28/6/2026). "To date, there has been no construction as is currently being widely discussed on social media," he added.

Lama stressed that the lawsuit filed by the investor against the Bali Provincial Government regarding the glass lift project is still in the trial process. He urged the public to investigate information circulating on social media more thoroughly first. "It is still in the trial process," Lama said.

Previously, a video circulated showing crane activity typically used by workers at the glass lift construction site. The video was narrated as evidence that the glass lift project at Kelingking Beach was continuing because the Administrative Court was said to have ruled in favour of the investor’s lawsuit.

Meanwhile, the Head of Bunga Mekar Village, Nusa Penida District, Wayan Yasa, admitted he did not know the truth of the information circulating on social media. Yasa fully deferred the continuation of the glass lift project to the ongoing legal process at the Denpasar Administrative Court. When asked about oversight from the village side, Yasa admitted that so far he had not gone directly to the field. "We plan to have an activity there tomorrow. We will check the conditions at the same time," he said.

It is known that the glass lift construction project at Kelingking Beach, Nusa Penida, has been permanently halted. The lift project on the steep cliff was deemed to have violated a number of regulations, including spatial planning, environmental, and conservation permits. The Bali Provincial Government also ordered the investor to independently dismantle the entire glass lift structure. Most recently, this case entered a new chapter with the investor’s lawsuit to the Denpasar Administrative Court.
