Klungkung Regency Government is upgrading tourism facilities and supporting infrastructure in Nusa Penida. The initiative was marked by the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with PT Ctrip Internasional Indonesia and the inauguration of a levy booth at Kelingking Beach on Friday (23 October 2026).

The partnership focuses on sponsorship for the improvement and construction of infrastructure at tourist attractions managed by the local government. As part of the agreement, the private-sector partner handed over grants of buildings and tourism-support facilities to the Klungkung Regency Government.

The items handed over include a levy booth and a pergola at Kelingking Beach, additional pergolas at several tourist attractions, and facilities and equipment for Balawista, the water-tourism rescue service.

Klungkung Regent I Made Satria praised the private sector’s concern and active contribution through a pentahelix approach involving government, traditional villages, the private sector, academics and the media.

He said safe and comfortable infrastructure was crucial to ensuring visitors to Nusa Penida felt at ease and were protected from harm.

“Improving and adding facilities at Nusa Penida’s tourist attractions is very important for enhancing the comfort, safety and experience of visitors,” Regent Satria said in Nusa Penida on Friday (23 October 2026).

Regent Satria also highlighted three priorities for the tourism-development partnership: putting visitor safety first, promoting local economic growth so residents benefit directly, and protecting the environment and local wisdom to ensure tourism remains sustainable.

He expressed hope that the collaboration would help take tourism management in Nusa Penida to a higher level.

“We hope this seedling of growth will make Nusa Penida not merely a golden egg, but a shining diamond on the way to Klungkung Mahottama,” he said.

A new levy booth at the site has replaced what was previously just a tent. In addition to providing an information centre, it has three automatic ticket machines offering services in multiple languages.

Kelingking Beach is one of Nusa Penida’s most popular tourist attractions, with an average of 1.3 million visits a year. The figure is expected to grow as tourism facilities and infrastructure improve.

The signing and inauguration ceremony was also attended by Klungkung Deputy Regent Tjokorda Gde Surya Putra, Acting Regional Secretary I Gusti Agung Gde Putra Mahajaya, heads of relevant regional agencies, and senior executives from PT Ctrip Internasional Indonesia.
