Pertamina strengthens its commitment to environmental sustainability and community economic development through various empowerment programmes across Indonesia, including the Desa Energi Berdikari (DEB) initiative. DEB is an innovative village model that harnesses clean energy to foster community self-reliance using Renewable Energy (RE).

The Keliki DEB in Tegalallang Subdistrict, Gianyar Regency, Bali, is Pertamina’s initiative to provide renewable energy to rural communities. The programme aims to use renewable energy as a solution to meet community needs.

Key activities at Keliki DEB include waste-to-compost processing and food security through eco-friendly farming, powered by a Solar Power Plant (PLTS) for waste management and irrigation pumps.

On Thursday, 28 May 2026, Pertamina’s Board of Commissioners observed and listened to beneficiaries explaining the programme’s impact on community self-reliance in Keliki DEB.

I Wayan Sumada, a Local Hero and Chair of Keliki Yowana Bakti Village-Owned Enterprise (BUMDES), enthusiastically detailed Pertamina’s role in mentoring, guidance, and facility provision in the village.

‘Keliki produces around seven tonnes of waste daily. The presence of the TPS3R (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle) facility significantly aids the community in managing and processing waste,’ he said.

To support waste processing, a 10.5 kWp Solar Power Plant (PLTS) is required, generating 14,256 kWh of solar energy annually. This not only saves Rp21 million in electricity costs yearly but also reduces greenhouse gas emissions by 13.7 tonnes of CO2eq annually.

He added that Pertamina’s support has indirectly encouraged community behaviour change, with households now segregating organic, inorganic, and residual waste.

‘Community awareness in waste segregation has greatly improved thanks to our collaboration with Pertamina. We manage waste to return it to nature, making it increasingly beneficial for the environment,’ he added.
