The presence of the Jakarta LRT, extending to Manggarai, is providing new travel options for residents of the Kelapa Gading area and its surroundings. The 12.2-kilometre corridor reduces travel time to Manggarability to approximately 28 minutes, bypassing heavy road congestion.

Diah Ayu (27), a resident of Kelapa Gading, is among the commuters benefiting from the service. Previously, her journey to her workplace required changing modes of transport after reaching Velodrome. Now, she can travel directly via LRT to Manggarai before continuing her journey via other transport methods.

“When going to Manggarai, I can go directly and then continue with other transport that is close to my office,” Diah told Republika on Wednesday (16/9/2026).

The Kelapa Gading–Manggarai LRT Jakarta officially commenced operations on Wednesday. The route comprises 11 stations: Kelapa Gading, Boulevard Utara Summarecon Mal, Boulevard Selatan, Pulomas, Equestrian, Velodrome, Rawamangun, Pramuka, Matraman, Proklamasi, and Manggarai.

In the initial phase, services on the new Velodrome–Manggarai segment are still limited to three stations: Rawamangun, Pramuka, and Manggarai. The Jakarta Provincial Government is conducting evaluations before implementing full service.

During the first eight days following the inauguration, the Jakarta Provincial Government implemented a special fare of Rp8,000 per trip. Following this period, the Kelapa Grand–Manggarai fare will be set at Rp5,000, while the Velodrome–Manggarai trip remains at Rp8,000 until a definitive regular fare is established.

Diah hopes that fares following the transition period remain affordable. She noted that ticket pricing will determine whether the public adopts the LRT as a daily commuting choice.

“A more suitable fare should not exceed the MRT fare, as the route is not yet as long as the MRT. Perhaps around Rp7,000 or Rp7,500,” she said.

Similar benefits were noted by Catur Sigit Nugroho, a member of the Ministry of Transportation’s Disability Inclusion Team, who assessed that the LRT connection to Manggarai could significantly reduce travel time from Kelapa Gading to central Jakarta.

“It is helpful, especially for congested areas. From Velodrome to Manggarai, the route passes through heavy traffic. However, it will be even better once it reaches Dukuh Atas,” said Catur.

Based on his experience, the Kelapa Gading–Manggarai journey can be completed in about 28 to 30 minutes. Travel time is considered more predictable compared to using road vehicles.

Regarding accessibility, Catur also praised the presence of ramps at stations, which facilitate use for wheelchair users, including electric wheelchairs. He believes the benefits of the LRT will be even more significant if the network continues to expand and is fully integrated with other modes in the city centre.

Manggarai as a Vital Hub

The Jakarta Provincial Government has positioned Manggarability as one of the primary hubs for Jakarta’s transport integration. The area is already served by the KRL Commuter Line, Airport Rail Link, Transjakarta, Transjabodetabek, and now the Jakarta LRT.

Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung stated that the LRT development is part of an effort to strengthen public transport connectivity. “Today marks an important milestone in strengthening Jakarta’s public transport. The Kelapa Gading–Manggarai LRT spans 12.2 kilometres with 11 stations, and the total investment of approximately Rp12.1 trillion is fully supported by the Jakarta Provincial Budget (APBD),” said Pramono.

However, physical intermodal integration at Manggarai is not yet fully complete. Observations show that passengers wishing to transfer from Manggarai LRT Station to Transjakarta halts or Manggarai Station must still exit and use surface-level access.

The President Director of PT Jakarta Propertindo, Iwan Takwin, stated that the direct connecting link is currently being finalised in collaboration with PT KAI. “We are finalising it, and hopefully, it will be completed by the end of this month, so the public can transfer between modes more comfortably and safely,” said Iwan.

Previously, Jakpro also stated that the direct connection between the LRT and the Manggarai Station area is targeted to be operational by September 2026. This connecting link will shorten the transfer time for users moving from the LRT to Transjakarta or KRL without having to return to the street level.

The Jakarta Provincial Government has also prepared the continuation of the LRT line from Manggarai to Dukuh Atas, spanning approximately two kilometres. This corridor is planned to integrate with the MRT, KRL, Transjakarta, LRT Jabodebek, and the Airport Rail Link.

“LRT development does not stop at Manggarai. The Provincial Government is preparing a two-kilometre extension towards Dukuh Atas with an investment of approximately Rp2.7 trillion,” said Pramono.

Subsequent developments are also planned towards JIS, Ancol, Jakarta Kota, and Halim. The Provincial Government is open to financing support, including through Danantara, to continue the construction of the network.
