Kelapa Gading-Manggarai LRT Introduces QRIS Tap Payment
The Kelapa Gading-Manggarai LRT route officially commenced operations on Wednesday (16/9). The inauguration was performed by President Prabowo Subianto in Jakarta.
“With the operation of this route, Jakarta’s public transport connectivity becomes more extensive and integrated,” said Prabowo during the inauguration of the Kelapa Gading-Manggarai LRT route.
The route extends the Jakarta LRT service, which previously only operated from Kelapa Gading to Velodrome. This new line spans 12.2 kilometres and includes 11 stations.
Travel from Kelapa Gading to Manggarai is estimated to take approximately 28 minutes. In the initial phase, the operator projects that the route can serve around 80,000 passengers.
Manggarai serves as a critical point in the development of the Jakarta LRT route as the area is a major transport hub. From Manggarai, passengers can continue their journeys using the KRL Commuter Line and various other public transport services.
The Jakarta Provincial Government has implemented a special fare of Rp8,000 for eight days following the inauguration to encourage the public to use the new route. Once the special period ends, a temporary fare of Rp5,000 is planned before a final evaluation is conducted.
In addition to expanding the service network, Jakarta LRT also provides QRIS Tap as a payment option. Nobu Bank is among the banks supporting this service through digital banking applications.
Director of Nobu Bank, Steve Marciano Joe, stated that ease of payment is a key part of the public experience when using public transport.
“The use of QRIS Tap is part of the development of digital payment systems that follow the increasing integration of transport services,” said Steve.
QRIS Tap utilises Near Field Communication (NFC) technology. Unlike standard QRIS payments that require users to scan a code, QRIS Tap users simply open a supporting payment application and bring their phone close to the NFC-enabled payment terminal.
Bank Indonesia noted that QRIS Tap features ‘Tap In Tap Out’ capabilities suitable for public transport payments. The implementation of this service is part of the expansion of contactless payment systems for high-volume transaction services.
The Jakarta Provincial Government has implemented the special LRT Jakarta fare of Rp8,000 for the Kelapa Gading-Manggarai route for eight days until 23 September 2026.
