Kelapa Gading-Manggarai LRT Begins Operation, Residents Express Great Satisfaction
President Prabowo Subianto, alongside Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung, officially inaugurated the Manggarai-Kelapa Gading LRT route in Jakarta today. The inauguration of this new route is part of the Jakarta Provincial Government’s efforts to improve citizen mobility.
During a site visit at approximately 1:30 PM WIB, President Prabowo and Pramono Anung personally tested the new route from Kelapa Gading to Manggarability. During the journey, Pramono was seen conversing with the President and accompanied by two junior high school students. Both leaders also inspected various facilities available at the LRT stations.
The Jakarta LRT Manggarai-Kelapa Gading route spans approximately 12.2 kilometres and passes through 11 stations, including Manggarai, Proklamasi, Matraman, Pramuka, Rawamangun, Velodrome, Equestrian, Pulomas, Boulevard Selatan, Boulevard Utara, and Kelapa Gading.
Pramono Anung stated that the new route is a strategic move by the Jakarta Provincial Government to facilitate easier mobility within the city, especially as various modes of transport are now increasingly interconnected. “To strengthen integrated public transport, increase productivity, public services, and connectivity. Connectivity in Jakarta has now reached 93 per cent,” Pramono said at Manggarai LRT Station on Wednesday (16/09/2026).
He further noted that the trend of using public transport has been rising, with usage increasing by 15 per cent over the last two years. “Consequently, even though congestion still exists, the people of Jakarta feel that using public transport is now much easier,” he added.
Pramono explained that the Jakarta LRT was entirely constructed by Jakpro, a regional-owned enterprise (BUMD), with full funding provided by the Jakarta Provincial Government’s budget (APBD). The project represents an investment of Rp 12.1 trillion. He noted that the route is targeted to carry approximately 80,000 passengers every day.
During the initial promotion phase, Pramono announced that LRT tickets for this route would cost only Rp 8 for the first eight days. “For the next eight days, we are offering a fare of just Rp 8 to the residents of Jakarta. I am confident that during this eight-day period, the public will experience the comfort of using the Jakarta LRT,” he explained.
Efforts to encourage public transport usage extend beyond fare discounts. The Jakarta government has also made public transport free for 15 specific groups, covering the LRT, MRT, Transjakarta, Transjabodetabek, and Jaklingko.
President Prabowo Subianto welcomed the development of the Manggarai-Kelapa Gading LRT, noting that it makes Jakarta more connected. “Therefore, today is a very happy day for me. It is a proud day, showing that our nation continues to progress step by step. Who would have thought 5 or 10 years ago that we would have a transport system like this? At Manggarai, we have the LRT, KRL, Transjakarta, Transjabodetabek, and the Airport Train. This is becoming a transport hub. Furthermore, residential towers for low-income residents will be built here,” Prabowo added.
The new route has received positive feedback from residents. Valerian Adi (33), a resident of Rawamangun, noted that the route significantly assists his daily activities, especially since the Rawamangun LRT station is close to his home. He highlighted that the integration makes commuting between Kelapa Gading and Manggarai much more seamless.
Similarly, Nuryan (57), a small-scale trader, expressed his appreciation, particularly for the free transport policies for certain groups, which help reduce his daily operational costs. “It is very helpful, Alhamdulillah; it is progress and very beneficial,” he concluded.
