Kelantan Chief Minister Meets Pramono, Discusses Jakarta-Kelantan Flight Route

JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - Governor of DKI Jakarta Pramono Anung received an official visit from the Chief Minister of Kelantan Dato’ Panglima Perang Ustaz Dato’ Haji Mohd Nassuruddin Bin Haji Daud at Jakarta City Hall on Wednesday (13/5/2026). The meeting discussed strengthening cooperation between Jakarta and Kelantan across various sectors, including tourism, health, education, and culture. One of the main points discussed was the plan to open a direct flight route between Jakarta and Kelantan, scheduled to begin operations on 16 June. “This concerns the bilateral relations between Jakarta and Kelantan, namely the upcoming direct flight from Kelantan to Jakarta,” said Pramono at Jakarta City Hall on Wednesday (13/5/2026). According to him, Jakarta has great potential as a tourism market due to its agglomeration population reaching 42 million people. He also assessed that Kelantan could become a new alternative destination for Jakarta residents who have previously mostly visited Kuala Lumpur or Penang when travelling to Malaysia. “Of course, Jakarta will become a new place for Kelantan residents as well as Jakarta residents heading to Kelantan,” he continued. Pramono added that the number of flights from Malaysia to Jakarta is currently increasing. In addition to visiting Jakarta, Malaysian tourists often continue their journey to surrounding areas such as Bandung, supported by easy transportation access. Besides the tourism sector, Jakarta and Kelantan also agreed to collaborate in the cultural field, particularly regarding the preservation of ancient Malay manuscripts. That cooperation is intended to keep historical documents preserved for future generations. “We came here to promote the state of Kelantan because starting from 16 June, there will be a direct flight from Kelantan, Malaysia to Jakarta, Jakarta to Kota Bharu, Kelantan,” said Nassuruddin. He explained that Kelantan is known as a centre of Islamic education in Malaysia with many cultural and historical uniquenesses. One of them is the existence of the oldest wooden mosque in Malaysia, which is over 300 years old and built without using nails. In addition, Kelantan also offers various natural tourism destinations and unique culinary specialties, such as Nasi Kerabu. “In Malaysia, Kelantan is considered a state of culture, cultural values, cultural arts, and a paradise of food. Malaysian people, when going to Kelantan, like the cuisine and food in this state,” said Nassuruddin.
