KEK Kura Kura Bali Hosts Student Installation Exhibition from IDB Bali
The Kura Kura Bali Special Economic Zone (KEK) has become a stage for young talent through the GRAVITATION x OBSERIES 2026 festival. Held at the Bali Abode Gallery, UID Bali Campus, KEK Kura Kura Bali, the event presents 17 innovative visual installations by Visual Communication Design (DKV) students from the Bali Institute of Design and Business (IDB Bali).
Under the theme ‘KIJAAA?’, a distinctive Balinese expression meaning ‘Where to? Where to? Anywhere is fine!’, the art festival invites visitors to question boundaries and discover new possibilities through the mediums of art, design, and collaboration. Each installation represents different ideas, material explorations, technologies, and visual approaches, demonstrating the students’ ability to translate contemporary issues into interactive three-dimensional works.
IDB Bali Vice Rector I, Ni Komang Prasiani, expressed appreciation to PT Bali Turtle Island Development (BTID), the manager of KEK Kura Kura Bali, for the collaboration in the field of art education. According to Prasiani, this exhibition platform helps students channel their creativity. ‘This is a regular activity, so the results of the lecture material the students have received allow them to experiment and create works that can be enjoyed by the public,’ said Prasiani.
An installation titled ‘Ngeling/Ngeling’ by DKV student Kuinda captivated audiences by highlighting the narrative of nature conservation in Bali. Kuinda emphasised that the visualisation process in design must have meaning and not be merely a visual display. ‘If we create a work without meaning, it is like an empty shell. Here, especially for this work, we are indeed raising cultural themes or what is happening in the surrounding environment,’ Kuinda explained. Kuinda also appreciated KEK Kura Kura Bali’s presence as a creative space, noting the many interesting exhibitions and expressing pride in being part of the event.
Head of the Communications Department at KEK Kura Kura Bali, Zefri Alfaruqy, said the management was pleased to provide a space for IDB Bali students to explore their work. Zefri observed many profound messages conveyed by the students through their creations. ‘Our hope is that this area can become a meeting point where bold ideas can grow, take root, and inspire us all to continue creating,’ he said.
Secretary of the Regional Board of the National Creative Economy Movement (Gekrafs) Bali, I Komang Manik Sumardika, stated that the event is an important step in fostering the regeneration of creative talent. ‘We hope this exhibition will further motivate students to be active in their work. We have high hopes that the strong public interest in the creative economy will become a driving force to boost the national economy, especially in Bali,’ Manik said.
The GRAVITATION x OBSERIES festival is open to the public and runs from 10 to 12 July 2026, starting at 09.00 WITA. The public is invited to attend and witness the students’ works firsthand, while also serving as an inspirational dialogue space for the future of the nation’s creative industry.
