Kei Shin Kan to hold gashuku

SEMARANG (JP): The Kei Shin Kan school of karate is slated to hold its national gashuku (training session) in Salatiga, Central Java, from Jan. 1 to Jan. 4, an executive said on Monday.

"Karateka from our chapters in Bali, Central Java, Jakarta, Yogyakarta, North Sumatra, South Sulawesi, South Sumatra, West Java and West Sumatra will take part in the session," chairman of Kei Shin Kan's board of instructors Bambang Dewantoro said.

"We will also discuss several matters related to this school of karate," he added.

Bambang said that issues included regulations concerning koshiki (hard contact fighting), training methods, and standardizing the kata, a technique of the discipline.

"We are expecting the Indonesian Karate-Do Federation (FORKI) to acknowledge our kata. We want to contribute more than just in the kumite events," he said.

"But we also have to admit that we still lack instructors and that's why we keep consolidating the school," he added while adding that karate is a martial art. (har)
