The provision of these vaccines is a crucial step in maintaining Central Java’s status as a rabies-free province since 1997. The Vice Governor of Central Java, Taj Yasin Maimoen (Gus Yasin), explained that prevention efforts must continue, given the mobility and movement of animals between regions.

“Being free does not mean we can relax. We must also remain vigilant,” he stated in a written statement on Sunday (27/09/2026).

According to Gus Yasin, animal movement cannot be controlled at all times, making vaccination one of the primary efforts to ensure animal populations remain protected. He shared these remarks while attending the ‘World Rabies Day 2026’ commemoration at Taman Indonesia Kaya, Semarang.

Furthermore, the number of people keeping pets, such as dogs and cats, is increasing. Consequently, pet owners are urged to ensure their animals are vaccinated and to consult with veterinarians.

“We must work together to support the rabies-free movement,” said Gus Yasin.

He also expressed his appreciation to veterinarians and medical personnel who have dedicated themselves to keeping Central Java rabies-free. These efforts are considered vital as rabies is a dangerous disease.

Gus Yasin emphasised that prevention must be a priority. In his view, massive vaccination efforts are part of a strategy to build protection from the outset, rather than merely waiting for cases to emerge before taking action.

He expressed hope that the rabies vaccination drive, supported by 10,000 doses, can be implemented optimally within the community. The programme is believed to strengthen collaboration between the government, animal health workers, pet lover communities, and local residents.

The Head of the Central Java Provincial Agriculture and Livestock Office, Defrnsisco Dasilva Tavares, affirmed that the provision of free vaccines is a form of government protection for pets. This step also serves as a preventive measure to suppress and prevent the threat of rabies to the public.

Additionally, vaccination is a key component in the effort to maintain Central Java’s status, which has been declared rabies-free since 1997. Nevertheless, vigilance remains necessary due to the risk of the disease re-entering the province.

Meanwhile, pet owners expressed their gratitude for the free vaccine programme organised by the Central Java Provincial Government. Rahma, a resident who owns two Persian cats, expressed her happiness that the vaccines are provided free of charge.

“I am very happy because it is free,” she said.

Similarly, Septi, who brought her Teckel and Golden Collie dogs for the free vaccination, noted that the programme is very helpful as private vaccinations can be quite expensive.

“If done privately, the price is quite high, around 300,000 IDR,” she concluded.
