Keep Xmas feast modest: PGI

JAKARTA: The Indonesian Communion of Churches (PGI) appealed to all Christians in Indonesia on Wednesday to keep their Christmas celebration modest as a sign of respect for Moslems who are observing the Ramadhan fasting month, slated to begin on Dec. 20.

"Please avoid celebrations that would be seen as extravagant, luxurious and colossal, or gatherings involving many people, given the current social conditions," PGI chairman Sularso Sopater and deputy secretary general Weinata Sairin said in a statement.

Extravagant parties would expose the existing wealth gap in society and create social envy, they said as reported by Antara. (emb)
