Keep calm and maintain unity

With regard to the bombing of the Catholic church in Duren
Sawit and the Batak Protestant church in Jatiwaringin on July 22,
2001 perpetrated by irresponsible persons, we, the executive
board of the Community of Indonesian Christians are deeply
concerned and saddened by the fact that the two bomb blasts have
claimed a number of innocent victims.

In this context, we would like to condemn all forms of
violence and anarchy which harm the unity and integrity of the
nation. Furthermore, we call on the government and security
forces to take firm measures against the culprits and make every
effort to prevent recurrence of such cases.

We also would like to call on all members of the Community of
Indonesian Christians to remain calm, avoid being provoked and to
intensify their vigilance and unity. More importantly Christians
should maintain friendly cooperation, communication and
relationship with people of other religions in their respective
neighborhoods.
