Kediri's 'Sekolah Rakyat' Students Receive Character Building During Orientation
Students at Sekolah Rakyat Terintegrasi 2 in Kediri, East Java, are being taught character building during their school orientation period (MPLS).
Head of the school, Nur Zam’ah, stated on Thursday that the pupils were very enthusiastic about participating in the MPLS, including primary school students who demonstrated discipline throughout the series of activities.
“The MPLS aims to introduce the school environment to students, from habits, rules, and school culture to life in the dormitory. The hope is that the children can adapt well so they are ready to follow the learning process,” she said in Kediri.
She expressed hope that the education provided would make them more eager to learn and that they would understand and follow the school rules properly.
“The children are very enthusiastic. I hope they are always healthy and happy, and able to understand and carry out the school and dormitory rules well. We hope their positive character begins to form from this MPLS period onwards into their daily lives,” she said.
One tenth-grade student from Tosaren Urban Village, Kediri, Vinky Syawalia Putri, admitted she initially felt nervous when she first arrived at the school because she was worried about not having new friends. However, that worry gradually disappeared after participating in various activities during the MPLS.
“At first I was afraid I wouldn’t have friends. But after joining the activities, it turned out my friends were friendly and kind, like family. So I am very happy to be able to study at Sekolah Rakyat,” said Vinky.
According to her, the family atmosphere began to be felt since the pre-MPLS activities, which included communal meals, a school tour, a dormitory tour, and congregational prayers. She also admitted to feeling comfortable living in the dormitory because of the assistance from teachers and caregivers.
Vinky, who aspires to be a novelist, hopes the opportunity to study at Sekolah Rakyat can help her achieve her dreams while improving her family’s welfare.
Head of the Kediri City Social Service, Imam Muttakin, said the local government continues to provide assistance and monitoring so that the operations of Sekolah Rakyat, including the implementation of the MPLS, run well.
“The monitoring and evaluation results show that the MPLS implementation is going well. Several student needs, such as equipment and uniforms, are currently still in the process of being distributed in stages. The government continues to facilitate various needs so that the implementation of Sekolah Rakyat can run optimally,” said Imam.
He also urged all students to follow every series of the MPLS seriously as preparation before entering teaching and learning activities at Sekolah Rakyat.
“Pay attention to every direction from teachers and caregivers, then carry it out well so that later when the teaching and learning process begins, the children can participate in all activities optimally,” he said.
