Former Surabaya City Police Criminal Investigation Unit chief AKBP Edy Herwiyanto, who is also the father of Kediri Mayor Vinanda Prameswati, has officially been transferred from his post within the East Java Regional Police (Polda Jatim).

The transfer was made while Edy undergoes an investigation by the National Police Headquarters’ Professional and Security Division (Propam).

His removal was set out in the East Java Police Chief’s Telegram Letter Number ST/1271/X/KEP/2026, dated 29 October 2026.

Under the letter, Edy, who previously served as Head of the Investigation Oversight Section at the East Java Police’s Directorate of Criminal Investigation for Women and Children Protection and Human Trafficking (Ditres PPA-PPO), has been reassigned as a mid-ranking officer in the same directorate.

East Java Police Public Relations Head Kombes Jules Abraham Abast confirmed Edy’s removal and reassignment. He said the transfer was specifically made in connection with the investigation.

“It is true that AKBP EH has been transferred and, as stated in the transfer notice, he has been reassigned pending an investigation,” Jules said when contacted on Friday (30 October).

The East Java Police have not disclosed details of the alleged violation that led to Edy being investigated by Propam. Jules said his office was not authorised to reveal the substance of the investigation because it is being handled directly by National Police Headquarters.

“However, we cannot provide further information on the material or substance of the investigation, including whether it relates to any particular alleged case, because the investigation is not being conducted by the East Java Police,” he said.

Jules also stressed that the East Java Police could not determine whether a violation had occurred until the investigation into Edy was fully completed.

“Therefore, the East Java Police are not in a position to disclose or draw conclusions about the substance or findings of the investigation,” he said.

Earlier, reports circulated that AKBP Edy Herwiyanto, the former head of the Surabaya City Police Criminal Investigation Unit, had been arrested by the National Police Headquarters’ Propam division.

Edy was reportedly detained over suspected abuse of authority. He was alleged to have been involved with, and to have acted as a patron for, a civil-society organisation.

Social media posts alleged that Edy, who is also the father of the Kediri mayor, had shielded the organisation’s alleged thuggery.

“We respect the ongoing investigation, and further explanation of its substance and findings is, of course, a matter for the authority conducting it,” Jules said.
