Kediri Government Building Reopens After Last Year's Arson Attack

The Kediri Regency Secretariat building has been reoccupied after undergoing rehabilitation following an arson attack by protesters on 30 August 2025. The building’s return to use was marked by a communal prayer, a charity event for orphans, and a tumpeng cutting ceremony led by Kediri Regent Hanindhito Himawan Pramana. “In principle, we are all grateful that after a year-long process, this building, which was almost completely destroyed, can now function again,” said Mas Dhito, as the regent is familiarly known. Several departments have already moved into the new building, including the Planning and Finance Division, General Affairs, People’s Welfare, and the Economy and Governance sections, with other agencies to follow. The office complex, rehabilitated by the Ministry of Public Works, retains much of its original structure but now features a brighter paint scheme. In light of the arson attack carried out by protesters on 30 August 2025, the building is now equipped with security systems such as fire detectors. Mas Dhito expressed hope that the new facility would reinvigorate the spirit of government employees and stressed that public services must now be maximised. “Hopefully, this new building can provide benefits in serving the community,” he said. Employees appeared happy with the move, having spent the past year sharing office space with other agencies that survived the fire.
