Kediri City Government Maximises Waste Management at TPS 3R
Kediri (ANTARA) - The Kediri City Government in East Java is maximising waste management at TPS 3R (Waste Processing Site for Reduce, Reuse, Recycle) as an effort to reduce the volume of waste entering the TPA (final disposal site) in the city. “We are optimising the TPS 3R facilities we have. All the waste that is collected is loaded onto trucks and processed at TPS 3R,” said the Head of the Environmental, Cleanliness, and Parks Agency (DLHKP) of Kediri City, Indun Munawaroh, in Kediri on Tuesday. She revealed that Kediri City has nine TPS 3R locations. The condition of these TPS is very good, enabling a reduction in the volume of waste to be sent to the TPA. “On average, the daily waste volume in Kediri City is around 150 tons. The majority of the waste generated is household waste,” she stated. At the TPS 3R sites, Indun said that waste is sorted by type. If it is organic waste, it can be processed into fertiliser, and similarly, plastic and paper waste can be reprocessed. “Organic waste can be processed at TPS 3R to become compost. There is also residue. If the residue lasts longer, the odour comes from the organics,” she said. As a result, waste disposal services to the TPA have been disrupted for about six days. Officers cannot enter the TPA because the road to the location is blockaded by residents. The residents are demanding compensation of Rp2 million per household, but the local government is still conducting a study regarding the compensation. Indun apologised for the issue and is continuing to communicate with the residents. The city government, she said, has actually already provided compensation. This is based on Law No. 18 of 2008 on Waste Management, Article 25. She explained that the government and local governments, either independently or jointly, may provide compensation to individuals as a result of negative impacts caused by waste handling activities at the final waste processing site.
