Kebon Sirih Road Frequently Damaged, DKI Provincial Government to Implement Permanent Concrete in 2026

The DKI Jakarta Provincial Government plans to concrete Kebon Sirih Road in Central Jakarta in 2026. This step is taken because the road is often damaged despite multiple repairs. Head of the DKI Public Works Department, Heru Suwondo, said that this repair will use concrete to make it stronger than asphalt. “We will endeavour this year to re-enter Kebon Sirih but with different material. We will use concrete on Kebon Sirih; it will be concreted,” Suwondo stated during a meeting with Commission D of the DKI Jakarta DPRD on Thursday (23/4/2026). However, the asphalt does not last long and gets damaged again. According to Heru, one of the causes is the poor condition of the soil beneath the road, as well as the frequent excavation works. “The road is smooth, but it doesn’t last long. Especially Kebon Sirih road after the sub-base condition is not good and there are indeed excavations. This always happens on Kebon Sirih from the first year,” he explained. He also acknowledged that the concreting process could potentially disrupt traffic flow. However, this is important as a long-term solution so that road damage does not keep recurring. Points that are MRT station locations will not be concreted, but only tidied up. “At the MRT station points, we won’t work on them, just tidy them up. Meanwhile, outside of that, we will concrete so that the road doesn’t keep getting damaged like now,” said Suwondo.
