Jakarta, VIVA – The controversy surrounding the construction of a padel court in the Kebayoran Lama area of South Jakarta has escalated significantly. Local residents have officially filed a report with the Jakarta Metropolitan Police (Polda Metro Jaya), citing disturbances caused by construction noise that allegedly continues late into the night and even into the early morning hours.

The report was filed on 2 February 2026 by a lawyer appointed by the residents. The complaint has been registered under case number LP/B/863/I/2026/SPKT/POLDA METRO JAYA. The Jakarta Metropolitan Police confirmed receipt of the report.

“The report concerns the alleged criminal offence of disturbing the tranquillity of the neighbourhood due to the construction of a padel court in the Kebayoran Lama area,” said Jakarta Metropolitan Police Head of Public Relations, Senior Commissioner Budi Hermanto, on Tuesday, 24 February 2026.

In the report, the complainants allege a violation of Article 265 of the Criminal Code regarding acts that disturb public tranquillity. Budi explained that the reported parties in the case are identified as A, acting as Project Manager of PT PK, and S, representing PT PPS. The handling of the case is no longer under the Jakarta Metropolitan Police’s jurisdiction.

“The Jakarta Metropolitan Police has referred the handling of the case to the South Jakarta Metropolitan Police for further processing,” Budi said.

Based on information gathered, the noise disturbance allegedly occurs because the padel court construction project continues to operate late into the night. The construction site is reportedly located directly in front of residents’ homes, making the sound of project activities clearly audible.

Residents had previously sent a letter to the local village head regarding their complaints. Mediation between the developer and residents was also conducted.

However, following the mediation, construction reportedly continued until the early morning hours. Feeling that no resolution had been reached, residents ultimately chose to pursue legal action by filing a report with the police.
