Jakarta (ANTARA) - Social media influencer Muhammad Miftahund, better known as Keanu Angelo, has responded to a summons from the Metro Jaya Police regarding the alleged fraud of pilgrims by the Hanania Group umrah travel agency.

Accompanied by his legal counsel, Keanu exited the Criminal Investigation Directorate of the Metro Jaya Police at approximately 3:03 PM WIB. He emphasised that his involvement with the Hanania Group was strictly a promotional barter arrangement and did not involve receiving any cash transfers.

“I explained during the interrogation that I did not receive any endorsement fees from the cooperation with Hanania. It was a barter agreement,” he stated when met in Jakarta on Monday.

Keanu explained that investigators asked approximately 25 questions regarding how he first met the company, the details of the cooperation contract, and the promotional mechanisms used. He also submitted evidence including the cooperation contract and bank statements for the period of August 2024 (during the departure), as well as one month before and after the trip.

“They (Hanania) sent me for umrah, and in return, I promoted my testimonials and my experiences there. I did not receive any flow of funds from Hanania Group,” Keanu said.

Keanu further detailed that he first met the President Director of the umrah travel service company, PT Khazanah Tamma Internasional, or Hanania Group, identified by the initials ASFR (30), in early May 2024. Subsequently, around 30 May 2024, he signed a contract. The umrah trip took place from 29 July to 10 August 2024, alongside approximately eight members of his group.

Regarding the Hanania Group case, Keanu expressed shock, noting that he had conducted thorough research into the company’s legality before accepting the offer. “I had checked, and the company was indeed legal and accredited under the supervision of the Ministry of Religious Affairs. Before I departed, they already had a fairly good reputation,” Keanu added.

Meanwhile, Keanu’s legal counsel, Charles P. Situmorang, emphasised that his client has been cooperative, prioritising the police summons before providing public clarification to rectify circulating rumours. “As a citizen, Mr Keanu felt it was better to fulfil the police summons first before we provided clarification,” he said.

The Criminal Investigation Directorate of the Metro Jaya Police has affirmed its commitment to fully investigating the alleged investment and umrah travel fraud involving PT Hasanah Tamma Internasional, or Hanania Group.

Director of Criminal Investigation, Kombes Pol Imanuddin, stated that the police are currently targeting several parties involved in the flow of pilgrim funds, ranging from promotions by famous influencers to the tracing of assets belonging to the main suspect, in an effort to recover losses for the victims.

“The funds used were partially diverted for purposes outside of the pilgrims’ umrah trips, and partially used to pay influencers for marketing purposes,” said Imanuddin.
