KDM Urges Residents to Shop at Local Stalls and Street Vendors to Reduce Poverty

The Governor of West Java, Dedi Mulyadi, has requested that middle- and upper-class residents change their shopping habits by prioritising local neighbourhood stalls and street vendors to help accelerate the reduction of extreme poverty in the Tanah Pasundan region.

Dedi Mulyadi made these remarks following the West Java Provincial Government’s recent success in receiving the second-best award for Outstanding Regional Government 2026 at the provincial level in the categories of Poverty Alleviation and Stunting Reduction from the Ministry of Home Affairs.

“Middle- and upper-class citizens should shop within their local communities, such as at stalls and from street vendors, so that poverty levels continue to decrease,” Deline stated in a briefing in Bandung on Monday.

The man affectionately known as KDM emphasised that this national recognition is the fruit of integrated programme convergence, service achievements, and the effectiveness of interventions reaching the grassroots level in villages, including the real progress in reducing stunting rates on the ground.

According to the Governor, this prestigious achievement is tangible proof of the collective performance of regents, mayors, village and sub-district heads, neighbourhood heads (RT/RW), and the dedication of Posyandu cadres throughout West Java.

Consequently, KDM urged all elements of society not to become complacent with this award. Instead, he stressed the importance of mutual support and providing concrete attention to the nutrition of children in the surrounding environment.

“If you see children suffering from malnutrition, please provide nutritious food immediately,” Dedi added.
