KDM Urges PWI West Java to Remain Steadfast to the Facts
West Java Governor Kang Dedi Mulyadi (KDM) has reminded members of the press to maintain their independence and use facts as the primary foundation when delivering information to the public.
KDM delivered this message while attending the inauguration of the Indonesian Journalists Association (PWI) West Java Executive Board for the 2026-2031 period at Gedung Merdeka, Bandung, on Friday (2/10/2026).
KDM stated that the rapid flow of public communication makes the role of the press increasingly important. Consequently, journalists are required to maintain independence to ensure that the information conveyed to the public is accurate and accountable.
“Journalists are independent; therefore, PWI must continue to uphold independence, remain committed to the facts, and present news as it is—without adding or subtracting anything,” said KHM.
According to him, a professional press is a vital component in maintaining democratic balance. In addition to conveying information, the media serves a supervisory function regarding the administration of government.
KDM believes this function is necessary to ensure that the government operates transparently and continues to prioritise the interests of the community.
“This is an honourable profession in building democratic balance in Indonesia and West Java, and in performing checks and balances on the administration—especially in West Java, which is led by me,” he added.
The Chairman of PWI West Java, Tantan Sulthon, stated that PWI West Java is committed to building a good relationship with the West Java Provincial Government. However, he noted that such a partnership will continue while maintaining the press’s function as an overseer of public policy.
Tantan noted that journalists have a role in reporting government performance while simultaneously bringing the voice of the people to the government.
“We also have good intentions, Sir, to grow and to continue being a partner to the West Java Provincial Government. Certainly, the government has its performance, the community has its participation, and we journalists have the duty to continue monitoring,” said Tantan.
Tantan mentioned that PWI West Java currently oversees more than 1,000 members spread across 22 regencies and cities. The organisation is also supported by four working groups that actively carry out various activities.
With this network, PWI West Java aims to ensure that information regarding regional development is widely received by the public. On the other hand, various community aspirations and grievances are also expected to be conveyed to the government.
“We will convey what the Governor has done, what the Governor will communicate to the community, and vice versa. We will convey the grievances and the aspirations of the people,” he said.
Tantan added that PWI West Java is ready to help oversee various regional development programmes, including the “Jabar Istimewa, Kota Ditata, Lembur Diurus” (Special West Java, Organized Cities, Managed Villages) vision, which serves as the direction for West Java’s development under KDM’s leadership.
