KDM Urged to Protect West Java Residents from Online Gambling and LGBTQ

West Java DPRD Deputy Speaker Iwan Suryawan has asked West Java Governor Dedi Mulyadi to protect residents from online gambling practices and the spread of LGBTQ. He urged the West Java Provincial Government to allocate funds for the moral development of human resources.

Iwan also called for physical infrastructure development, which is a priority in West Java, to be balanced by preparing a special budget and programmes to shape the character and morals of human resources. This is intended to protect the public, especially the younger generation, from online gambling, the spread of LGBTQ, and brawls.

According to Iwan, addressing these social problems is urgent amid a West Java regional budget posture reaching Rp 32.8 trillion. Infrastructure allocation absorbs up to Rp 5.1 trillion.

“This is considered crucial so that physical infrastructure development proceeds in balance with strengthening the character of West Java’s people towards the Golden Generation 2045,” he said after reflecting on the 81st anniversary of the Republic of Indonesia, Wednesday (19/8/2026).

He continued that the push towards the Governor of West Java and his ranks is in line with Presidential Regulation Number 111 of 2025 concerning the General Policy on State Defence. The regulation categorises the spread of LGBTQ culture and online gambling as forms of non-military threats to national defence and security.

Iwan added that PPATK data places West Java at the top nationally with the involvement of 41,000 children playing online gambling with a transaction value of Rp 49.8 billion. This is followed by findings from the West Java Health Office on a surge of 9,625 new HIV cases among the key LGBTQ population, as well as the high prevalence of youth brawls.
