KDM to Provide Rp 50 Million Compensation for Fatalities in Bekasi KRL Collision, Highlights Need for Flyover
West Java Governor Dedi Mulyadi (KDM) stated that he would visit Bekasi to check on the victims of the KRL Commuter Line collision in East Bekasi on Tuesday afternoon (28/4/2026). As is known, 14 people died and 84 were injured when the KRL Commuter Line was struck by the Argo Bromo train on Monday night (27/4/2026).
“After this, at 12:00 WIB, I am going to Bekasi. I will convey my condolences and announce the compensation,” he told reporters at the Pakuan Building on Tuesday (28/4/2026).
He explained that his side would provide Rp 50 million in compensation for residents who died as a result of the accident. In addition, Dedi said he had spoken with the Mayor of Bekasi to jointly cover the hospital costs for treating the injured victims.
“We are providing compensation of Rp 50 million for anyone who died, and since the location is in Bekasi, West Java, at the hospital, I have already spoken to the mayor; the hospital costs will be covered jointly by the West Java Provincial Government,” he said.
From the incident, Dedi Mulyadi highlighted the existence of the flyover that must be built immediately. He mentioned that the construction plan has been prepared by the West Java Provincial Government, but it is currently still in the process of revising the Detailed Engineering Design (DED).
“In the future, there must be an acceleration of the flyover construction, and actually, the construction plan already exists in the province, currently revising the DED. We will just accelerate it, hopefully this year we can push for it to be properly allocated,” he said.
Previously, the evacuation of the train collision at East Bekasi Station was completed around 10:40 WIB. The number of fatalities from the KRL Commuter Line accident struck by the Argo Bromo train at East Bekasi Station, West Java, on Monday night, has increased to a total of 14 people.
The victims have been taken to Kramat Jati Police Hospital for identification, while 84 injured people are receiving treatment at various hospitals.
Deputy Minister of Transportation, Suntana, stated that the Ministry of Transportation, along with KAI and other related parties, continues to handle the matter intensively and will provide periodic updates.
Previously, the evacuation process was carried out gradually and slowly. The last five people were known to be trapped, requiring special equipment to cut the metal. The President of Indonesia previously visited the victims at Bekasi City Hospital and stated the need for improvements to the unguarded railway tracks.
The Bekasi City Government has proposed the construction of a flyover at the accident site, and the President has approved the construction to avoid similar accidents in the future. The government plans to repair thousands of level crossings on Java Island with a budget of around Rp 4 trillion.
