KDM Reveals Obstacles to House Renovation Programme in West Java
JAKARTA - West Java Governor Dedi Mulyadi, commonly known as KDM, has revealed the main obstacles in the house renovation programme in his region.
KDM shared this during a meeting with the Minister of Housing and Settlement Areas (PKP), Maruarar Sirait or Ara, along with several regional heads in Jakarta on Tuesday (31/3/2026).
According to KDM, the aid programme for uninhabitable houses or house renovations has frequently been hindered by the tiered application process, from the village level to the province.
“Aid for uninhabitable houses or house renovations is always obstructed because the public faces difficulties in accessing the programme as they must go through proposals from the village head, district government, and provincial government,” he said.
To overcome this issue, the West Java Provincial Government (Pemprov) together with the Ministry of PKP will launch a special application that allows the public to apply for aid directly without going through a long bureaucratic process.
“So, the homeowner, their neighbour, resident, figure, activist, or even a social media enthusiast who finds a poor person’s house can directly upload it into our application system, then it will be registered and verified,” he added.
Director General of Settlement Areas at the Ministry of PKP, Fitrah Nur, added that the application will serve as a queueing system based on direct proposals from the public.
“The application can be accessed directly by the public, with the hope that it becomes a queue for the public, so that what we do is truly based on direct proposals from the people,” said Fitrah.
On the same occasion, Ara stated that the house renovation programme in West Java will be launched on a large scale on 13 April 2026 in Bandung, as part of President Prabowo Subianto’s instructions to improve the quality of public housing.
In addition, the government also discussed accelerating the construction of subsidised flats, including the utilisation of the Meikarta area and plans to build flats in Depok with government land support.
Director General of Urban Housing at the Ministry of PKP, Sri Haryati, explained that the government is preparing several new regulations to support the programme.
This includes adjustments to the highest selling price, flexibility in unit sizes up to 45 square metres, and extension of financing tenure to 30 years.
The government is also providing additional subsidies in the initial financing stage to ease access to vertical housing for low-income communities.
