JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - A video has gone viral in recent days showing a social media user who felt obstructed in paying vehicle tax in the West Java area. The video recounts a vehicle owner facing extortion at Samsat. The vehicle owner was asked to pay an unofficial additional fee of Rp700,000 for not bringing the National ID Card (KTP) of the original vehicle owner. The man, familiarly known as KDM, has issued a new policy for the West Java region in the wake of this issue. Starting 6 April 2026, the public can fulfil their annual motor vehicle tax payment obligations without bringing the National ID Card (KTP) of the original vehicle owner. “The public who will pay motor vehicle tax only need to bring the Vehicle Registration Certificate (STNK) and the ID of the party in possession of the vehicle. This facilitation applies to both individual and corporate taxpayers. Hopefully, this facilitation will smooth all Samsat services in West Java and make it easier for the public to pay taxes,” he said, quoted from the official statement, Tuesday (7/4/2026). “Paying taxes must not be made difficult because it is the government’s duty to facilitate people in paying taxes,” said KDM.
