The construction of an artificial intelligence (AI) data centre project in the Jatiluhur Reservoir area, Purwakarta Regency, West Java, has been temporarily halted because the Environmental Impact Assessment (AMDAL) and Building Approval (PBG) requirements have not yet been processed. West Java Governor Dedi Mulyadi has requested that the data centre project does not interfere with the water supply for farmers.

The Governor, affectionately known as KDM, requested that the AI data centre construction not commence until the AMDAL and PBG documents are secured. The absence of these two documents poses potential complications for the project’s development.

KDM has instructed consultants to immediately submit the necessary requirements so that the AMDAL and PBG for the AI data centre construction can be issued by the Purwakarta Regency Government. “The PBG and AMDAL have not been issued. The project should not proceed yet. Halt the construction for now,” KDM stated on Thursday.

He continued by requesting that consultants open the project’s analysis studies to the public, particularly regarding potential noise levels and the usage of water from the Jatiluhur Reservoir. He also demanded that consultants ensure the presence of the AI data centre does not disrupt the use of Jatiluhur Reservoir water for farmers.

“The existence of the AI data centre must not interfere with the use of the Jatiluhur reservoir water for farmers,” said the former Regent of Purwakarta.

The AI data centre, situated on an 8,000-square-metre site, has been under construction since 22 September 2026. The project is intended to have an electrical power capacity of up to 640 Megawatts (MW).

Previously, concerns had emerged that the presence of the AI data centre could disrupt the water supply from the Jatiluhur Reservoir, including the supply intended for farmers.
