KDM: Garut Regency 2026 Road Construction Budget Allocation Imbalanced
Bandung (ANTARA) - West Java Governor Dedi Mulyadi (KDM) has responded strongly to numerous public complaints regarding damaged roads in Garut Regency by revealing an imbalance in the road construction budget allocation set by the Garut Regency Government for 2026.
Speaking in Bandung on Sunday, Dedi revealed that in the 2026 Draft Regional Revenue and Expenditure Budget (RAPBD) for Garut Regency, the West Java Provincial Government had actually recommended a road construction allocation of 7 per cent, amounting to Rp360 billion of the total regional budget.
However, in its realisation, the Garut Regency Government has only allocated Rp105 billion, or 2.2 per cent of the total regional budget, for the construction of roads, bridges, and public street lighting (PJU).
“From that figure (Rp105 billion), the allocation for road construction is only Rp80 billion. It is impossible to repair such an extensive road network with only Rp80 billion to Rp105 billion including street lighting,” said Dedi.
In response to the minimal budget portion, the West Java Provincial Government is taking swift action by summoning the Regent of Garut and the Chairperson of the Regional Government Budget Team (TAPD) of Garut Regency to Bandung.
In the upcoming meeting, KDM emphasised that he will demand the Garut Regency Government undertake an amendment to the 2026 regional budget to align it with the instructions and provisions recommended by the governor.
This decisive step is being taken to ensure the rights of the Garut people to enjoy adequate and smooth road infrastructure.
Previously, on 20 August 2026, thousands of residents from the Banjarwangi, Singajaya, and Peundeuy districts of Garut Regency, along with hundreds of minibus drivers, held a protest at the Garut Regency DPRD office. They protested the state of the main access roads in South Garut, which have been damaged for approximately 11 years, disrupting local mobility; they also threatened to pursue regional separation if repairs are not undertaken.
