West Java Governor Dedi Mulyadi, or KDM, has banned coin-sweeping activities at Sewo Bridge in Sukra Subdistrict, Indramayu Regency, during the 2026 Eid al-Fitr homecoming traffic. He is providing compensation of Rp400,000 to each participant.

Their activities disrupt traffic and endanger themselves as well as other road users.

A total of 457 coin sweepers received compensation money. Each sweeper receives Rp400,000. They are prohibited from operating for 15 days.

KDM has asked the public, who have been searching for coins on the road, to temporarily halt their activities for safety reasons. He also visited them personally.

In his instructions on-site, KDM highlighted the dangers of these activities, especially since they involve children. He urged the coin seekers to immediately return to their respective homes.

“With Eid coming, do not search for coins on the road anymore. This is dangerous. Now go back to your respective homes,” said Dedi.

As a form of solution, the West Java Provincial Government will coordinate with village governments to conduct data collection and distribute aid to affected residents. Dedi assured that cash assistance will be given on the same day to help meet needs ahead of Eid.

“Later, I will handle it with the village heads. This afternoon, I will give Eid cash packages. For 15 days, you must not search for coins on the road anymore,” he emphasised.

The distribution of aid will be carried out through respective village governments, involving neighbourhood and community unit apparatus. Residents are asked to remain at home and not return to the road during that period.

Dedi also emphasised the importance of protecting children who are often taken to the road for coin-searching activities. This is highly risky and must be stopped.

This step is taken as an effort to safeguard public safety while providing temporary social guarantees ahead of Eid.

The West Java Provincial Government hopes this policy can reduce the potential for accidents and ensure the public can still meet basic needs without risking their safety on the road.

The phenomenon of residents scrambling for small change by sweeping coins at Sewo Bridge on the North Coast Road has recurred ahead of Eid al-Fitr. West Java Governor Dedi Mulyadi, or KDM, is providing compensation.

The compensation is given to ensure smooth traffic flow on national and provincial roads.
