KDM Assures Jalan Diponegoro Will Not Be Closed Due to Gedung Sate Redevelopment

West Java Governor Dedi Mulyadi, known as Kang Dedi Mulyadi (KDM), has emphasised that Jalan Diponegoro in Bandung will not be closed, but will instead experience traffic rerouting in line with plans for the new redevelopment of the surrounding Gedung Sate area.

Dedi explained that the planned changes will transform the road pattern into a circular one, so it no longer divides the Gasibu and Gedung Sate areas.

“There will be no closure of Jalan Diponegoro. What there will be is rerouting of the road sections, from one that divides Gasibu and Gedung Sate to a circular one,” he said during a visit to Bandung Regency on Monday (20/4).

This clarification was given in response to the emergence of a petition rejecting the revitalisation of Jalan Diponegoro that has recently been circulating in the community. According to him, these concerns arise from misunderstandings about the area redevelopment plans being prepared by the government.

He added that the traffic rerouting will not be carried out in the near future, but only after the area development is completed and deemed ready for use.

“As long as the road has not been built, we will not close it. Later, once it is built and comfortable, we will reroute it,” he stated.

Dedi explained that the area redevelopment aims to create a more orderly and comfortable public space without reducing public access to the area. He views the area as having an important role as a centre of community activities, so changes are being made gradually and in a planned manner.

In addition, the traffic engineering to be applied is expected to reduce congestion while increasing safety for road users.

The government, he continued, will also ensure that every stage of the redevelopment does not significantly disrupt community activities.

Thus, Dedi reaffirmed that there are no plans to close Jalan Diponegoro, but rather adjustments to traffic flow to support better area redevelopment.
