JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - PT Karya Cipta Nusantara (KCN) has denied allegations that the shallowing occurring in the Muara Cakung Drain area, Cilincing, North Jakarta, is caused by the reclamation project they are undertaking.

The KCN Public Relations team stated that the construction of the Pier 3 Marunda reclamation by KCN does not enter the fishermen’s waters area.

“According to the zoning of the Ministry of Transportation, the construction carried out by PT KCN does not enter the fishermen’s waters,” it said in an official statement received by Kompas.com on Thursday (16/4/2026).

“There is no sedimentation; we are building with sheet piles constructed to anticipate sedimentation,” it explained.

The sheet piles in question are concrete structures in the sea that drew public attention in 2025.

“The construction of the KCN pier uses sheet piles to avoid sediment, just like the sheet piles that were previously rumoured as concrete embankments,” it clarified.

Previously, it was reported that a number of fishermen in the Muara Cakung Drain, Cilincing, North Jakarta, held a boat parade as a form of protest against the construction around the estuary on Tuesday (14/4/2026) afternoon.

The project targeted by the protest is the construction of the New Priok Eastern Access (NPEA) and the Pier 3 Marunda reclamation.

“What clarity do they want to make there, and we just ask for a road, access road that is indeed not feasible for the fishermen to walk on,” one of them told Kompas.com at the location on Tuesday.

However, they claimed they have never received an explanation regarding the Pier 3 Marunda reclamation from PT Karya Cipta Nusantara (KCN).

“Actually, we have received that socialisation from Pelindo. But Pelindo has also conveyed to us, we know what the programme is like. But what we don’t know is from KCN. KCN has no socialisation to us, then suddenly it’s already done,” he explained.

He added that the fishermen were shocked because the reclamation carried out is said to have disrupted sea access.

“On Friday meeting Saturday, it was already flat to the end, so we can’t pass on this side. We can pass but it seems more dangerous because maybe on the side there is sand, so afraid of large stones, even larger ones that could hit the boat,” he clarified.
