KCJB financial restructuring a benchmark for extending line to Surabaya

The Ministry of Transportation has stated that the financial restructuring of the Whoosh Jakarta-Bandung High-Speed Railway (KCJB) will be the benchmark before the government decides to extend the line to Surabaya and Banyuwangi. “Currently, the government is focused on the financial restructuring of the Jakarta-Bandung high-speed train,” said the Ministry’s Director General of Railways, Allan Tandiono, in Jakarta on Saturday, regarding the priority of resolving the KCJB project’s financial restructuring. Allan stated that this policy is in line with the direction of the Coordinating Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development, Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono, who serves as the Chair of the Jakarta-Bandung High-Speed Railway Committee. He affirmed that the results of the financial restructuring will serve as the government’s benchmark for evaluating the feasibility of extending the Whoosh High-Speed Railway line to Surabaya, and even Banyuwangi. Previously, Agus Harimurti mentioned that the continuation of the Whoosh high-speed train project to East Java would be carried out in parallel while awaiting the financial restructuring of PT Kereta Cepat Indonesia China, the operator of the KCJB. He stated that he had met with the Ministry of Finance and Danantara Indonesia regarding the plan for Whoosh to operate as far as Banyuwangi. “The stages are being carried out in parallel today,” Agus said during a press conference on the update of the Best Results Fast Programme and Eid homecoming preparations at the Presidential Palace complex in Jakarta on Wednesday (11/3). The financial restructuring of the KCJB is crucial as it will influence the roadmap for developing Whoosh to East Java. “We should first ensure that the KCJB is completed, meaning a solution can be properly adopted, and only then develop the next stage,” he explained. President Prabowo Subianto established the Jakarta-Bandung High-Speed Railway Committee, appointing Agus Harimurti as its Chair. The appointment is based on Presidential Regulation of the Republic of Indonesia Number 29 of 2026 concerning the Second Amendment to Presidential Regulation Number 107 of 2015 on the Acceleration of the Implementation of the Jakarta-Bandung High-Speed Railway Infrastructure and Facilities.
