KCIC: Legal Action Against Whoosh Cable Thieves to Serve as Deterrent
PT Kereta Cepat Indonesia China (KCIC) has emphasised the importance of legal proceedings against those responsible for stealing Whoosh infrastructure cables, aiming to create a deterrent effect as such actions can disrupt operations and threaten the safety of high-speed train journeys.
KCIC General Manager Corporate Secretary, Eva Chairunisa, stated that the impact of the theft extends beyond material losses from the missing cables to include disruptions in passenger services.
“We hope this disclosure serves as a lesson to the public so that they do not commit or become involved in such actions,” Eva said in Bandung on Thursday.
KCIC is supporting the Police in uncovering the case through information exchange and on-site assistance.
“We express our gratitude to all ranks of the Police who have cooperated until the entire network involved, from the perpetrators to the receivers of stolen goods, has been uncovered. There will be no compromise regarding actions that can endanger Whoosh operations,” Eva stated.
She noted that the series of thefts occurred at several points on the tracks between Karawang and Padalarang Stations, as well as between Padalarang and Tegalluar Summarecon Stations.
“The targeted cables include telecommunications cables, signalling cables, grounding cables, and other supporting components of the Whoosh infrastructure,” she said.
“These cables serve different functions, ranging from telecommunications and signalling to grounding systems. Every component installed on the track plays a vital role in supporting Whoosh operations and must not be damaged or removed,” Eva added.
To maintain operational security, KCIC is supported by 531 security personnel stationed at stations, depots, along the tracks, and various other operational areas.
“The 142.3-kilometre Whoosh track is equipped with security fencing featuring barbed wire, alongside 1,773 CCTV cameras distributed across various facilities, tracks, and Whoosh train sets,” Eva concluded.
