KCIC: Indonesian Staff Now Fully Handle Whoosh Operations
Bandung (ANTARA) – PT Kereta Cepat Indonesia China (KCIC) said all operational and maintenance activities for the Whoosh high-speed railway are now handled entirely by Indonesian personnel, following a knowledge-transfer process with Chinese professionals that began in 2023.
KCIC General Manager for Corporate Secretary Eva Chairunisa said the achievement showed that Whoosh not only provides modern transport but also helps Indonesian workers master high-speed rail technology.
“Through a structured three-year knowledge-transfer process, Indonesian personnel are now able to carry out all Whoosh operations and maintenance independently,” Eva said in Bandung on Monday.
She said the transfer of knowledge had been under way since 2023, with support from Chinese professionals belonging to the Operation and Maintenance Consortium (OMC).
At the start of operations, Chinese professionals were directly involved in operating and maintaining the railway while also mentoring Indonesian employees.
“This is an important achievement that demonstrates Indonesian personnel’s ability to master high-speed rail technology,” Eva said.
As Indonesian workers’ skills improved, the number of Chinese personnel providing assistance was gradually reduced. They all completed their assignments and returned to their home country in August 2026.
“Since September 2026, all Whoosh operations and maintenance functions have been carried out independently by Indonesian employees,” she said.
The responsibilities include train drivers, the Operation Control Centre (OCC), rolling-stock maintenance, tracks, bridges, tunnels, signalling, telecommunications, electrical systems and various other supporting equipment. KCIC is continuing to develop employees’ skills to maintain operational readiness and reliability.
Eva said knowledge transfer was carried out in stages through theoretical and simulator training, observation, and on-the-job training alongside Chinese professionals.
“Indonesian employees then undertook practical work, competency tests, certification, technical assessments and the handover of responsibilities before being deemed ready to work independently,” she said.
Eva stressed that the end of the Chinese professionals’ support period would not lessen KCIC’s commitment to maintaining the safety and reliability of Whoosh operations.
All employees on duty have met the competency and certification requirements for their respective fields, and all work continues to follow the applicable procedures and safety standards.
