KCIC Ensures Whoosh Operations Remain Safe Amid Extreme Weather

PT Kereta Cepat Indonesia China (KCIC) has assured that the Whoosh high-speed train operations between Jakarta and Bandung remain safe amid extreme weather conditions. “Regarding the circulating video content showing the Whoosh train stopped near the Kopo area, we can explain that train G1046 on the Tegalluar Summarecon–Halim route was temporarily halted at KM 126+383 near Kopo on Friday, 3 April at 4:45 PM WIB to ensure travel safety due to the handling of a foreign object in the form of zinc sheet that entered the track because of extreme weather,” said KCIC General Manager of Corporate Secretary Eva Chairunisa in her statement in Jakarta on Sunday. Previously, the sensor system had detected the presence of the object, allowing it to be anticipated and posing no danger to the journey. The handling was completed at 4:48 PM WIB, and at 4:49 PM WIB, the train resumed its journey. “Whoosh operations remain safe and running normally without significant delays,” said Eva. The extreme weather conditions allowed light objects like zinc sheets to be carried by the wind and enter the track. However, there were no disruptions to other railway infrastructure, and all infrastructure remains in safe condition. “KCIC emphasises that all Whoosh tracks remain safe and are monitored through various layered safety systems,” said Eva. She added that these systems include foreign object detection sensors, heavy rain and strong wind sensors, as well as an earthquake detection system integrated with the travel control located in the Operation Control Centre (OCC) or operations control centre. Today, all journeys are normal, with passenger situations still appearing crowded after the long weekend holiday from Bandung to Jakarta. The majority of passengers departed from Padalarang Station.
