The search for a woman who was sexually harassed aboard a KRL carriage on the Jakarta Kota-Bogor route has yielded results, with the perpetrator successfully apprehended.

KAI Commuter’s Public Relations Manager, Leza Arlan, stated that the company immediately followed up on the KRL user’s report regarding the alleged harassment. The investigation was conducted through CCTV analysis based on the perpetrator’s description provided by the victim.

“We then confirmed with the victim to verify the suspect’s identity before placing them on the blacklist,” Leza said on Saturday, 28 February 2026.

The security system issued a notification when the suspect re-entered a station area on Friday, 27 February. Officers immediately mobilised.

“Relevant officers directly coordinated in the field to promptly apprehend the suspect and bring them to Bojonggede Station for initial examination,” he stated.

After examination and the victim’s presence, officers accompanied the victim to file a report with the police. Psychological support was provided to the victim.

“KAI Commuter remains committed to providing excellent service and safety to all users whilst supporting the victim. KAI Commuter expresses its deep regret and sincerest apologies to the victim for the discomfort experienced,” Leza said.

“KAI Commuter urges all users to be mindful of their surroundings whilst using the commuter line, to take action and speak up or report all forms of sexual harassment to officers, via the call centre on 021-121, or through KAI Commuter’s official social media,” he added.

Previously, a video circulated on social media of a woman claiming to be a victim of sexual harassment aboard a KRL carriage on the Jakarta Kota-Bogor route. The woman reported the incident to officers at Cilebut Station.

In the video, the woman recounted that she boarded at Manggarai Station. During the journey, she began feeling physical contact. However, she initially dismissed it, thinking the contact came from another passenger’s bag. A man then spoke to her.

According to the woman’s account, the man casually asked if she was angry after he rubbed his genitals against her during the journey.

The woman stated that other passengers did not help her and merely looked in her direction. She eventually decided to alight at Cilebut Station and report the incident to officers.

When asked for confirmation, KAI Commuter’s Vice President of Corporate Secretary, Karina Amanda, stated the incident occurred on 22 January. The company had already followed up on the victim’s report.

“We immediately acted on the report. KAI Commuter is certainly always ready to provide full support to protect and assist the victim in continuing the legal process with the authorities,” she said on Friday, 27 February.
