KBPP Polri Urges the Police Chief to Be Fair, Take Firm Action Against Misbehaving Officers Without Compromise

Jakarta – The Chairman of KBPP Polri for the 2015-2021 period, AH. Bimo Suryono, says Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo has been fair in awarding rewards and punishments to his officers. In the past few days, the public has witnessed two incidents that illustrate the Polri’s commitment to professionalism, courage, and integrity on the ground. The first occurred when police secured a student demonstration in front of Mabes Polri, Trunojoyo, South Jakarta. ‘In a heated, high-pressure and emotionally charged situation, a number of police officers remained calm, facing insults, shouts, and even harsh words from protesters,’ Bimo said in a written statement on Wednesday, 4 March 2026. The restraint drew direct attention and appreciation from the Kapolri. According to him, their ability not to be provoked is a sign of maturity in carrying out duties as protectors of the people, and ‘the Kapolri’s attitude in praising the officers who carried out their duties correctly is appropriate as a leader, and is hoped to be emulated by other officers in securing demonstrations humanely,’ he added. The second incident, Bimo continued, involved the Kapolres of Tual, Maluku, who led the security with his officers but became a target of an assault from protesters. An arrow pierced the Kapolres’ leg. Nevertheless, Bimo said that, even when injured, the Kapolres of Tual remained at the front line and continued to lead his men in guarding the demonstration until the situation was brought under control. ‘This incident serves as a reminder that police duty is not only about facing criticism or social pressure, but often involves real threats to safety,’ he said. In the midst of such dedication, Bimo also touched on a case involving Polri personnel allegedly connected to a drug network in Bima, West Nusa Tenggara (NTB). He said it is a blow to an institution that has long been at the forefront of eradicating drugs. ‘The incident shows that a large institution like Polri contains two sides, namely the sincere service of the majority of officers and the deviations committed by a minority,’ he concluded.
