KBLI 2025 Officially Launched, Content Creators to Crypto Now Included in Classification
The government has officially implemented the Indonesian Standard Industrial Classification (KBLI) 2025 as part of the update to the national economic activity classification system. This policy is emphasised as not burdening business actors with the obligation to obtain new permits. Head of Statistics Indonesia (BPS) Amalia Adininggar Widyasanti stated that KBLI is a common language for reading and organising economic activities systematically. “In simple terms, KBLI is a common language for reading economic activities and structuring them neatly. All business activities from agriculture, industry, trade, to the digital economy,” said Amalia, quoted on Monday, 27 April 2026. First, the emergence of new sectors that were previously not clearly defined in the old KBLI, such as intermediation services and various modern services. Second, the increasing attention to environmental issues and climate change. This has given rise to new economic activities such as carbon capture, carbon storage, and the development of new renewable energy, which now have their own classifications. Third, the rapid digital transformation that is changing the economic landscape. Activities such as artificial intelligence (AI), content creators, social media monetisation, to crypto assets are now included in the new economic ecosystem that needs to be clearly classified. “With this change, KBLI 2020 must be updated to KBLI 2025, because basically the Indonesian Standard Industrial Classification is updated every five years,” she emphasised.
