Kaur Optimistic Padang Guci Hulu Will Become a Premium Durian Hub
Kaur Regency Secretary Nasrur Rahman is optimistic that Padang Guci Hulu District can develop into a premium durian hub in Bengkulu Province, following the successful cultivation of several high-value varieties. Nasrur stated that the optimism is based on the harvest results from LY Cawang Farm, located in the Cawang Kidau plantation area in Manau IX Village. The 10-hectare plot is planted with premium varieties such as Musang King, Bawor, and Duri Hitam, which have now entered their production phase. He noted that two successful harvests demonstrate that the soil and climate conditions in Padang Guci Hulu are highly suitable for developing premium durian, provided quality seedlings and proper cultivation techniques are used. Nasrur assessed that premium durian has promising economic prospects due to rising market demand, and he hopes this success will serve as a model for the community. To encourage development, the Kaur Regency Government, together with relevant parties, is preparing premium durian seedlings to be distributed to residents. He believes that if more farmers cultivate premium durian, Padang Guci Hulu could become a production centre capable of meeting market needs in Bengkulu and beyond within a few years. Beyond increasing farmers’ incomes, the development of premium durian is also seen as having the potential to stimulate the agro-tourism sector, with durian plantations becoming tourist destinations during harvest season, thereby adding value to the local economy.
