Escalation of the conflict in the Middle East region is not only considered to have the potential to create a humanitarian crisis, but could also affect global economic stability, including Indonesia’s economy. For this reason, the Family of Alumni of Muhammadiyah University Yogyakarta for the Special Region of Jakarta (KAUMY DK Jakarta) has called for the importance of peace efforts to ease the conflict occurring in the region.

This call was conveyed by the Chairperson of KAUMY DK Jakarta, Wahyu Sandya Yudha Pangestu, during the “Breaking of the Fast Together and Orphan Assistance” event held at the Muhammadiyah Central Dakwah Building in Jakarta on Sunday, 8 March 2026.

Sandya stated that the current conflict involves a number of countries in the Middle East, including Iran, which has been attacked by an alliance of the United States and Israel since February 2026 until now, as well as the prolonged suffering in Palestine. All of this has the potential to create widespread impacts, both from the humanitarian side and the global economy.

According to him, instability in the region can influence various global strategic sectors, ranging from trade to energy. This condition could ultimately potentially affect the economies of many countries, including Indonesia.

“Peace must always be the main choice. Efforts to ease conflict through dialogue and humanitarian approaches are important steps to prevent greater suffering for civilian populations,” said Sandya.

He added that armed conflict not only affects regional stability, but also has the potential to expand the humanitarian crisis that needs to be a matter of attention for the international community.
