Kasyadi holds lead in Andersen tourney

JAKARTA (JP): Kasyadi from the Yani Golf Club in Surabaya stood at seven-under-par 209 to hold the third-round lead in the Rp 75 million (US$11,000) Andersen Consulting Challenge Golf Championship on Thursday.

Kasyadi, who finished fourth at last year's tournament, also boasts, with one other golfer, the tournament's best round, a 69 which included four birdies and one bogey at the par-72 Pondok Indah Golf Course here.

Maan Nasim from Olympic Golf Club trails Kasyadi at three- under-par 213.

Nasim, who finished second at the 1998 tournament at Matoa Golf Course, has been steady in the tournament, carding two par rounds of 72.

Ilyas Sak from Aceh is a surprising third, passing Dede Idris of Gading Golf Club, who stands at four-over 220.

Ilyas opened the tournament with a four-over 76, but improved in the second round with a one-under 71.

He had three birdies and one bogey on Thursday, ending the day at one-over 217.

The third round was disastrous for top professional golfers Burhan Bora of Makassar and Buari of the Yani Golf Club.

Burhan suffered a double bogey at the par-five ninth hole and bogeys at the par-four 13th and par-five 18th. Burhan somewhat balanced these holes with three birdies to end his round with a one-over 73.

Kasyadi's brother Buari began his round with two double bogeys, a dubious feat he again accomplished on the ninth hole.

He carded another five bogeys against one birdie to finish the third round at 10-over 226.

Burhan and Buari were the champion and runner-up, respectively, at the Matoa Invitational at the Matoa Golf Course in Ciganjur, South Jakarta, last week.

A total of 20 players teed off on Thursday in clear weather.(ivy)
