Kasiyadi in the lead at golf tourney

JAKARTA (JP): Sometimes it's better to be lucky than good. Kasiyadi, of Surabaya's Yani club, found this out yesterday when his poor 1-over 73 was enough to vault him into the lead of the Jakarta Circuit championship yesterday.

Nevertheless, he appeared unhappy with his three-day total of 2-over 218 (76,69,73) at the difficult Halim II layout located near the air force base in East Jakarta.

The third and final leg of the Jakarta Golf Circuit championship saw only Sumarno manage to break par with a 71. However, it may be a case of too little too late as the fine round has him in a tie for third with Suwarno and Ilyas Syak at 222.

Two strokes off the lead is overnight leader Maan Naasim from the Jagorawi Golf and Country Club.

The stage is thus set for a close battle in today's final. "It could be determined by a sudden death play-off," speculated pundits who have been closely following the three legs of the circuit.

In the amateur event, Indonesian ace Sukamdi, seems unable to regain his usual form as he wallows in fourth place.

Burhan, who together with Sukamdi, Denny Supriyadi, Bahtiar and Dana Mahmud are being groomed for the Hiroshima Asian Games, tops the leader board at 221 (74,75,72). Second is Sanusi with a 223 (72,73,78).

Sukamdi and Denny played pivotal roles in Indonesia's Putra Cup victory earlier this year at the Pantai Indah Kapuk link. (rsl)
