Kartini statue moved to Monas

JAKARTA: Governor Sutiyoso inaugurated on Tuesday the new location of the statue of a women -- popularly known as the Kartini statue -- in the National Monument park facing Gambir train station in Central Jakarta.

The bronze statue, a gift of friendship from the Japanese government 42 years ago, was moved from its original location on Jl. Diponegoro to make way for the new Diponegoro statue in Menteng, Central Jakarta.

Besides Sutiyoso, the Japanese Ambassador to Indonesia Yutaka Iimura and city officials also attended the ceremony. --JP
