PT Semen Indonesia (Persero) Tbk (SIG) implements a fair employment opportunity policy to ensure equal and fair opportunities for all employees without regard to gender, in line with the spirit of equality commemorated on Kartini Day. SIG’s Human Capital Director, Hadi Setiadi, stated that this policy also serves as a form of respect for human rights (HAM) and support for achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (TPB) in Indonesia. “We ensure there is no discrimination in the recruitment process or selection for management and senior positions. All processes are conducted transparently based on competence and performance, not gender factors,” Hadi said in his statement in Jakarta on Tuesday. SIG also provides various facilities to support the needs of female employees, such as maternity leave, lactation rooms, and menstrual dispensations. In addition, SIG has formed the ‘Srikandi SIG’ female employee community as a forum for empowerment and talent development through various learning programmes. “As part of our commitment to creating an inclusive work environment, SIG also implements a respectful workplace policy to protect all company personnel from all forms of harassment and violence. Thus, a safe, conducive, and productive work environment is created,” Hadi added. At SIG, one manifestation of this commitment is reflected in the appointment of SIG Operations Director Reni Wulandari as the first woman to hold that position at SIG. Reni has held the position since April 2023 through the Annual General Meeting of Shareholders (AGMS). Reni, a Chemical Engineering graduate from Diponegoro University and holder of a Master of Business Administration from Swiss German University, has occupied various strategic positions within the SIG Group. She began her career as General Manager of the Tuban and Narogong Plants at PT Solusi Bangun Indonesia Tbk (SBI), one of SIG’s subsidiaries. Subsequently, Reni was entrusted as Operations Director at PT Semen Gresik before being appointed as SIG Operations Director. “From the first day of taking on the mandate as SIG Operations Director, I have implemented a visible-felt leadership approach. The presence of leaders and direct interaction in the field is very important, especially in operations areas dominated by male employees,” Reni said. As part of a gender minority, Reni admitted she did not face obstacles related to gender bias in carrying out changes to support SIG’s operational performance. According to her, this shows that gender equality at SIG is not just a slogan but has been implemented across all levels. Reni also emphasised that career opportunities in the heavy industry sector like cement demand high competence and consistency. “Not through argumentation or debate to obtain equal treatment, but by demonstrating that gender equality can increase profitability, innovation, and productivity through diversity of perspectives,” she added. Reni assessed that SIG and other state-owned enterprises (BUMNs) have provided equal opportunities for women and men to develop. This is a response to business needs, where gender equality becomes one of the driving factors for improving organisational performance. “In a merit-based work environment, focus on competence, qualifications, performance, and professionalism will be an advantage for the organisation,” Reni said.
