Kartini Day Reflection: Eko Suwanto Urges Increased Budget for Mother and Child Empowerment

There are many ways to reflect on the heroism of RA Kartini, which is commemorated annually on Kartini Day. One such reflection comes from Eko Suwanto, Chairman of the PDI Perjuangan Yogyakarta City Branch, who upholds the role of women both in the family and in society.

Eko stated that women need to continue igniting the spirit of becoming empowered women who can play a role in nation-building. He emphasised the need for the government’s role in realising this.

“Women are the pillars of education, both in the family and in Indonesian society. We hope that the Yogyakarta Special Region government will increase the budget for empowering mothers and children,” said Eko in a written statement received by detikJogja on Wednesday (22/4/2026).

“Indonesian women now have a strategic role in building the nation. Let us continue Ibu Kartini’s struggle in bringing women’s rights and roles to greater equality and empowerment in advancing the dignity of women in the world,” he added.

Through the commemoration of Kartini Day, Eko said that PDI Perjuangan is strongly committed to providing support and roles for women to contribute to nation-building.

Advancing the lives of Indonesian women to be more prosperous and have equal opportunities in self-development, competence, and empowerment is an important aspect of national development.

“Indonesian women have equal opportunities in the role of building an Indonesia that is sovereign, independent, and has a national personality in line with the nation’s culture,” explained Eko.

“PDI Perjuangan invites all elements of the nation to continue fighting together to bring Indonesia to greater prosperity, continuing the ideals and the flame of Ibu Kartini’s struggle, educating women and the Indonesian nation from poverty and freeing themselves from backwardness, and becoming more empowered,” he concluded.
