Kartini Day: Deputy Minister of P2MI Urges Greater Empowerment for Female Migrant Workers
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Deputy Minister for the Protection of Indonesian Migrant Workers (P2MI), Christina Aryani, has urged Indonesian women, especially migrant workers, to continue embodying the fighting spirit of Raden Ajeng (RA) Kartini in facing increasingly complex and dynamic contemporary challenges.
“The spirit of Kartini today is not only about emancipation but also about the courage to adapt in the global and digital era,” said Christina in a statement in Jakarta on Tuesday, during the commemoration of Kartini Day.
According to her, Indonesian female migrant workers are the Kartinis of today, who dare to seize opportunities, enhance their capacities, and contribute to their families and the nation.
She stated that female migrant workers do not only serve as breadwinners but also as agents of change who bring economic and social impacts, both to their families and the surrounding communities.
“Behind these great contributions, we cannot ignore the fact that there are still challenges, ranging from the risk of exploitation to limitations in accessing information,” she said.
Therefore, the state, in her view, is present to ensure that every female migrant worker is protected, has access to accurate information, and receives adequate support.
The Ministry of P2MI, Christina continued, continues to strengthen various technology-based protection instruments, including the optimisation of digital systems such as SiskoP2MI, to provide information services, complaints, and rapid responses for Indonesian migrant workers wherever they are.
The momentum of Kartini Day, she added, should serve as a reminder that collaboration between the government, society, and the education sector is needed to create an ecosystem that supports Indonesian women to become more empowered, protected, and ready to compete at the global level.
“Indonesian female migrant workers are a symbol of Indonesia’s resilience. With the spirit of Kartini, let us ensure that they do not only leave to work, but also return with success, experience, and a better future,” added Christina Aryani.
