The commemoration of Kartini Day on 21 April serves as an important moment to remember the struggles of R.A. Kartini in advocating for women’s emancipation and gender equality in Indonesia. In Semarang City, the 147th Kartini Day commemoration becomes a strategic means to strengthen the role of women in regional development.

With the theme “Kartini Spirit, Inspiration Across Generations. Empowered Women, Stronger Semarang”, it is hoped that women’s contributions to Semarang City’s development will grow stronger. This aligns with the direction of Semarang City’s development for 2025-2030, led by Semarang Mayor Agustina Wilujeng.

Development is directed through five main taglines: Clean Semarang, Healthy Semarang, Smart Semarang, Prosperous Semarang, and Resilient Semarang. These five pillars form the foundation for designing inclusive, participatory, and sustainable activities.

In this commemoration, a talk show will also be held featuring two speakers: Abimanyu, a Psychologist (The Art of Managing Women’s Mental Health), and Syanaz Nadya Winanto Putri (Building Self-Confidence: The Key to Success for Independent Women/Women’s Empowerment). “There will be a tumpeng-cutting by the Mayor, followed by a talk show with participants from OPDs and women’s organisations throughout Semarang City,” said the Head of the Women’s Empowerment, Child Protection, and Family Agency (DP3A) Eko Krisnarto, on Monday, 20 April 2026.

The Kartini Day momentum is also used to encourage women’s active role in family-based development, economic empowerment through MSMEs, improvement of human resource quality, and strengthening community social resilience. This commemoration activity simultaneously serves as a means of education, inspiration, and empowerment for women in Semarang City.

This activity aims to increase public awareness about the importance of gender equality and encourage women’s active role in regional development. “Supporting the implementation of Semarang City’s five development taglines. Enhancing women’s capacity in the fields of economy, education, and health. And strengthening family and community resilience,” he stated.
