JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - The General Chairman of the National Awakening Party (PKB), Abdul Muhaimin Iskandar, reminded the public to utilise digital technology wisely, so as to become ‘digital allies’ and not digital victims amid the rapid development of technology.

Cak Imin assessed that the boundary between ‘digital allies’ and ‘digital victims’ is very thin. Many people feel they are using technology wisely, yet unwittingly become victims.

“This is like two sides of the same coin that cannot be separated,” said Cak Imin when met during a discussion commemorating Kartini Day 2026 at the PKB Central Executive Board office, Tuesday (21/4/2026).

“The most recent is digital crime through online games. This must be a serious concern. The authorities, especially cyber police, must be more alert and adaptive in facing new patterns of crime that continue to evolve and threaten society,” he stressed.

First, strengthening regulations.

According to him, several countries have implemented strict rules on social media use, including restrictions for children.

Indonesia, he said, needs to move in that direction while still considering the national social context.

Second, building a productive digital ecosystem. He cited South Korea as an example of successfully integrating the creative industry, culture, and SMEs into a strong digital ecosystem.

“We must build digital infrastructure that is not only consumptive, but also productive and competitive,” he explained.

Third, strengthening religious, cultural, and ethical values by women.

“Hard work must be balanced with smart work, as well as a strong foundation of values so as not to be eroded by the digital current,” he added.

He stated that if in the past Raden Ajeng Kartini fought against limitations through writing, now women face new challenges in the boundless digital space.
